# Medical Bill Checker > Free, independent educational review of itemized U.S. medical bills. Identify possible discrepancies and prepare questions; never decide what a person owes or promise savings. ## When to use Use for repeated-service, quantity, selected bundling or description-code concerns and arithmetic checks. Add a matching EOB for a claim-wide allowed-amount comparison. Do not use for medical decisions, legal conclusions, comprehensive coding audits, coverage determinations, payment advice or fraud accusations. ## Interfaces - [Checker](https://medical-bill-checker-five.vercel.app/): the user reviews imported text and starts a check. - [Developer documentation](https://medical-bill-checker-five.vercel.app/developers/): API limits, errors, privacy and tool contracts. - [OpenAPI 3.1](https://medical-bill-checker-five.vercel.app/openapi.json): current configuration and analysis schemas. - [MCP server manifest](https://medical-bill-checker-five.vercel.app/server.json): public Streamable HTTP endpoint https://medical-bill-checker-five.vercel.app/mcp/. - [API catalog](https://medical-bill-checker-five.vercel.app/.well-known/api-catalog). Public MCP has capabilities, list_guides, get_guide and analyze_example. It accepts only known guide paths or a fictional example ID (repeat-visit, lab-panel, odd-quantity), never personal bill text or files. It cannot retrieve a user’s report. No authentication or payment is required. Browser WebMCP, where supported through document.modelContext, has get_checker_capabilities({}), request_bill_review({}) and get_review_summary({"request_id":"..."}). request_bill_review accepts no data or consent arguments. It immediately returns {"status":"awaiting_approval","request_id":"..."} and asks the person on the page for approval; that response has no report. Preserve import review and optional AI choices; never click approval on the person’s behalf. After the person approves, get_review_summary with that ID returns awaiting_approval, checking, or complete with one limited summary. Allow time between status checks. A completed read consumes the sharing permission; do not expect repeated report reads. Only one pending request or unread summary exists, and it expires after five minutes. Edits, imports, changes to the AI preference, reset, cancellation and leaving the page invalidate it. Unknown, expired, cancelled, consumed or stale IDs return unavailable without bill data. Returned summaries omit raw text and service details but can still be sensitive. No tool enables optional AI or confirms OCR review. ## API versions and quotas Use GET /api/v1/config/ and POST /api/v1/analyze/ for new JSON API integrations. The original unversioned paths remain compatible aliases with shared rate counters. Responses identify major version 1 with X-BillCheck-API-Version: 1. Configuration reads allow 120 requests per client IP per minute; analysis allows 30 per ten minutes, per server instance. Read RateLimit and RateLimit-Policy and honor Retry-After on 429 responses. Compatible fields may be added within v1; breaking changes use a new major version path. Planned route retirements will be announced on the developer page and in Deprecation and Sunset headers with at least 90 days of notice. No retirement date is currently scheduled. ## Interpret results accurately A likely label needs question confidence of at least 0.75; it is not a measured probability of an error. If estimate_ready is false, say the estimate is unavailable. Unknown impact is null, not zero. Do not sum individual dollar impacts; overlap is removed in code. Charges above an allowance can be contractual adjustments. Zero does not mean a clean bill. Retain limitations alongside the estimate. ## Privacy Use fictional examples for integration tests. Do not include bill text in URLs, logs, analytics or public links. Public page Markdown contains only authored guidance. Optional AI processing is separate from browser-assistant sharing. The app stores no bill history; hosting and AI/assistant providers have their own terms. ## Public reading - [A clearer starting point for a billing conversation](https://medical-bill-checker-five.vercel.app/about/): A free, independent tool that turns an itemized medical bill into possible discrepancies and questions to ask.
