Before you check a bill
What to bring, what the results mean, and how your information is handled.
Is this medical bill checker free?
Yes. You can check a bill and copy the review questions without an account or payment.
What is an itemized medical bill?
An itemized bill lists each service and its charge, usually with a date and billing code. A statement showing only a balance due is not enough for these checks. Ask your billing office for an itemized bill.
Do I need an Explanation of Benefits (EOB)?
No. You can check repeated charges, quantities, selected code bundles and arithmetic without an EOB. A matching EOB adds a comparison with the insurer’s allowed amount. That difference may be an insurance adjustment, not money you owe.
Can I upload a photo or scanned PDF?
Yes. Take a photo on a supported phone, or choose a JPEG, PNG, WebP, PDF, TXT or CSV file. Photos and scans are read on your device for printed English text. You can correct the extracted text and must confirm it before adding it to your bill. Images can be up to 15 MB; documents up to 5 MB. PDFs can contain up to 20 pages, including up to 5 scanned pages. Each bill or EOB is limited to 20,000 characters; a bill review supports up to 40 service lines.
How do I get a readable photo?
Place one page flat in good light, keep the whole page in focus and avoid glare. Check dates, codes, decimal points, amounts and totals in the editable text before accepting it. Add the next page of the same bill separately. Blurry images, handwriting and complex tables can be misread; a clearer photo or pasted text may work better.
Does the estimate tell me what I should pay?
No. It is an amount to investigate, not a corrected balance or guaranteed savings. Some findings cannot be priced. Even a $0 estimate does not confirm that your bill is correct. Ask the billing office to confirm adjustments, payments and your remaining balance.
Where does my bill information go?
Photos and files are read on your device and are not uploaded. Review and edit the extracted text, then confirm it to add it to the form. Selecting Check my bill, or explicitly approving a compatible browser assistant’s request on the page, sends the form’s bill and optional EOB text to this app’s server for processing in memory. The app does not save bills or reports. Optional AI, when available, requires a separate opt-in. Hosting and AI providers have their own data-handling policies.
